I can see the smoke rising far off chimney stacks
I feel the coldest touch at the nape of my back
The sky is clear and I can see the stars
I feel hatred for the people with heaters in passing cars

I’ve been doin' some moving seen some distant shores
Returning home now to the place where I was born
The cars just froze and I’ve got no light
No warm place to lay my head on this cold winter's night

When the morning comes might try some old friends
I’ve got some old numbers will try to make amends
My hands are shaking and I can’t feel my toes
